Team Santic-Wibatech-Tour of Slovakia 2.1
Pawel Szostka, Bartosz Rudyk, Tim Wollenberg, Patrick Haller, Stefan Brandlmeier, Bartlomiej Proc, Jonas Sonnleitner
Last Tuesday our riders started at the last tour of the year for our team - the Tour of Slovakia. They competed against World Tour teams and Pro Continental teams. The prologue led over a 7 kilometre long city course. However, our boys could not show their full potential and Bartosz Rudyk was only 83rd on the day.
On the first stage with 142 kilometres the main goal was to get someone into the escape group of the day. This was not really possible, so the boys decided to concentrate on the sprint. Seven kilometres before the finish, the whole team rode together to the front, but lost each other again three kilometres before the finish, so that a good result was no longer possible. The best rider of the day was Pawel Szostka in 26th place.
The second stage of the Tour of Slovakia brought no luck for our team. Tim Wollenberg could not start the stage due to health reasons. This was followed by a heavy crash of Patrick Haller, who broke his collarbone. Bartosz Rudyk and Bartlomiej Proc did not manage to finish within the time limit on the mountainous course. Best of the day was Pawel Szostka in 86th place.
Stage 3 turned out to be the hardest stage of all. Stefan Brandlmeier was able to stay in the first group with his bike until two technical defects. After that, however, he was also thrown back into the group of the day. In this group our three remaining riders fought their way to the finish. Best of the day was Stefan Brandlmeier on rank 112.
On the last day of the tour our riders were really motivated to get a top result and to leave the bad luck behind us. At the beginning, all of them managed to get over the mountains and to place themselves well in the peloton for the finish sprint. After a wave in the ranks of the riders, they were pushed further back again. As a result Pawel Szostka only managed to finish 27th.
