Tormans Cyclo Cross Team- Broughton Hall Race
In south London, Thomas Mein wrote the best page of his young career by becoming British Elite cyclo-cross champion after a formidable duel with Cameron Mason. On the mud-soaked Crawley track, the Geordie remained in control despite the pressure building up as he covered lap after lap. After sharing the lead with Mason, Thomas Mein managed to drop him with strength at the halfway point, but his opponent remained distant by a handful of seconds in pursuit until the very end. Three days away from celebrating his 23rd birthday, Mein won with four seconds ahead of Mason, delivering Tormans Cyclo Cross Team's first ever success across the Channel.
“This is my very first champion title since I started racing at the age of ten. It's incredible! I knew it would be a difficult battle with Cameron Mason on this course so I tried to manage my race as smart as possible. In the first two laps, I made sure not to push too hard to enter the final with enough energy. I exploited the parts of the course that suited me best to keep Mason at bay to ultimately win this thrilling duel. This victory moves me very much, because my family and all those who have supported me from an early age were there. All the pieces of the puzzle fell into place on this unforgettable day.
It truly is a relief, this title erases all the sacrifices of the past years. Living away from my family, going through travel restrictions, my health issues earlier this season… It was all worth it. In return, I can wear the Union Jack on my chest for the next twelve months. I can't wait to discover my new jersey!
